Cybersecurity faces challenges from threats in remote work

According to NTT’s 2021 Global Threat Intelligence Report, threats to cybersecurity during the pandemic affected industries, businesses, and human interactions around the world. This requires organizations to continue looking for ways to manage the risks for all the attacks that were registered, in order to be able to adjust their cybersecurity strategies.

“These are challenging times for security professionals and more so as companies advance on their path towards digital transformation,” Armando González, NTT Mexico’s director of solutions and technology, told NotiPress. The specialist also pointed out that the threat landscape is constantly evolving; It is essential to continue innovating and creating resilient solutions for a safer human and cyber environment.

Regarding the challenges of the cybersecurity market, González commented, the main one resides in the protection, detection and response to incidents by remote workers. That is why access to the cloud, as well as identifying and remediating vulnerabilities in applications, are key areas that must be addressed. Likewise, all architectures and solutions must be secure by design and must have good vulnerability management and patch overload.

“In addition to the above, the lack of internal resources, investment, training and tools to keep up-to-date, in order to address security problems, means that many organizations by themselves can no longer address all aspects of administration and information security controls internally, “said the NTT Mexico team member.

Similarly, threats and incidents are no longer the domain of a small number of specialized people. Today, there are many cybercriminals with basic skills and little expertise who are succeeding in exploiting cybersecurity breaches.

Regarding the role of a cybersecurity managed service provider, this can be limited to any service such as risk assessment or developing an incident response plan. According to NTT experts, there are seven essential and indispensable points to consider when choosing a provider. The first is to verify that it has the necessary resources, knowledge and experience in the different security domains.

Global reach will also be of utmost importance by providing a broad visibility landscape of current and advanced threats that enables you to quickly gain expertise to respond to, contain, and mitigate incidents. Also, considering vendors with technology specially designed for managed security services with advanced analytics to detect sophisticated threats is essential.

Along the same lines, remote and on-site support should be prioritized to solve small problems quickly and the customer experience with a unique and flexible approach for any managed security service, for their part, profitability and experience will also serve as key aspects.
