Review Lenovo Legion 5: tasty laptop for the gamer

Technology

Legion is the name of Lenovo’s gaming lineup. The products covered by this are increasingly appearing at tournaments and esports events, as well as game streamers and content creators in the field of games. We received the Legion 5 laptop at the editorial office and we gladly took care of it.

The Legion 5 from Lenovo turns out to be a good choice for those looking for a gaming laptop that can run almost any modern game with a good frame rate and beautiful graphics. The design of the laptop is sleek and slim, – making the device weigh just 2400 grams – yet it’s packed with power, including an AMD Ryzen 5000 H processor and an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 graphics card. But what else does this device offer?

Thin edges, smooth images

Once you open the laptop, you’ll come face to face with the 15.6-inch 1080p IPS display, which includes a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth images, accurate color through 100% sRGB, rather thin edges on the side and top, FreeSync and G – Sync support and a built-in 720p webcam with digital slider to block the image when you’re not using it. When used, the screen is all you need with a gaming laptop, the matte finish is also very useful.

If you don’t have headphones or earbuds with you, using the speakers is not a bad alternative, since for a laptop they sound remarkably good. Most gamers will have a headset on, but if it is not available for a while, the sound from the speakers is certainly not disappointing!

Lenovo Legion 5 Specifications

If you know anything about computer components, you know that combining an AMD Ryzen 5000 H processor (optimized for laptops) and an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 (6GB of GDDR6 video memory) can only result in positive results. Almost all games are well optimized (think DLSS and Ray Tracing support) for these components, allowing you to play pretty much any game at ultra or high quality settings with a framerate that makes good use of the fast 120Hz screen and without lag.

The 512GB SSD only tastes the laptop faster, so loading screens are over quickly, booting is done in an instant (within 20 seconds) and loading images for things like video editing is very fast. The laptop has 16 GB of RAM, which is expandable if that’s not enough for you.

Lenovo Legion 5 Tactile keys

But how does the laptop score on other fronts? The Legion Coldfront 3.0 system takes care of the cooling, using artificial intelligence and an intake and exhaust system with two fans to ensure your games run smoothly without your pc overheating. When gaming, you have the choice to go for more power or the longest possible battery life. The battery of the device lasts about 6 to 7 hours, although you yourself notice that the battery life mainly depends on what you are doing on the laptop.

Of course, the number of ports on the laptop is also of great importance. The laptop has four regular USB ports, two USB-C ports, an Ethernet port and an HDMI input. Of course, the 3.5 mm input should not be overlooked either. The Legion TrueStrike keyboard on the laptop is nice and spacious and comfortable for gaming, but also for just typing.
