Elon Musk has announced that the headquarters of the new Tesla gigafactory will be Berlin. He communicated it with a tweet with emoticons at the heart of the colors of the German flag and the word “Giga Berlin”. In another tweet, he specified that the plant will build batteries, propellers and vehicles, starting with the Y model, the crossover that will be ready next summer.
Officially, he said a few hours earlier on the occasion of the withdrawal of an award in Germany, the Golden Steering Wheel.

The factory will be built in the area of Berlin Brandenburg Airport, which is currently under construction and which is expected to open in 2020. We specify that “gigafactory” is the term with which Elon Musk indicates the production facilities of car batteries and cars themselves.
Gigafactory Europe, as Musk called this new factory, would be the fourth company. The first came into operation in Nevada in 2016, the second is located in Buffalo, New York and the third in Shanghai, China, which has not yet been fully completed.
