China performs impressive maneuver in geostationary orbit

February 1, 2022Ben Parker

Space debris mitigation satellite Shijian-21 recently docked with an old Chinese satellite to change its orbit. According to US tracking data, the “dead” satellite is now more than 3,000 kilometers from its place of origin. He no longer poses any danger. A scrapped Chinese satellite On October 24, China launched Shijian-21, described as a “satellite […]

Study confirms impact of boreal forests on low clouds

January 28, 2022January 28, 2022Mary Adams

Recent work based on a set of satellite measurements and field observations confirms the ability of boreal forests to modulate the reflectivity of low level clouds. However, this influence could moderate the future rise in temperatures on a continental scale. The results were published in the scientific journal Nature Geoscience. Forests have diverse and varied […]

Antarctica: a giant breeding colony of icefish discovered

January 17, 2022January 17, 2022Mary Adams

While studying whales aboard an icebreaker in Antarctica, German researchers stumbled upon a whole different treasure. At the bottom of the Weddell Sea, more than 300 meters deep, were indeed the outlines of thousands of icefish nests, each guarded by a ghostly-looking relative whose dark pectoral fins were spread like bat wings on a clutch […]

Galaxy is likely full of dead civilizations, study says

January 10, 2022Ben Parker

Astronomers suggest that many extraterrestrial civilizations have already arisen in our galaxy during its history. On the other hand, they also argue that most have probably already disappeared. Proposed in 1961 by Dr. Frank Drake, the Drake Equation is a formula for estimating the potential number of extraterrestrial civilizations in our galaxy. The equation takes […]

How Covid-19 has reduced the number of lightning strikes on Earth

December 27, 2021Mary Adams

The general lockdown that marked the beginning of 2020 was accompanied by a decrease in the number of lightning strikes on a global scale. This phenomenon is believed to be related to the decrease in air pollution at the global level. In any case, this is what a new study is advancing, the results of […]

Cat in space: France pioneering feline space exploration?

December 18, 2021Ben Parker

We sent a lot of sometimes unusual objects, but also some living beings into space. Before successfully placing a human in orbit, however, it was necessary to train and test the technologies upstream. As often happens with science, when the result involves the life of a man, the impact on animals is studied first. So, […]

A new theory has emerged about a strange incident at the International Space Station in 2018, which suddenly revealed a hole in the wall of a Russian spacecraft. It was never clear how that gap got there, although several theories have already been circulated. Russian media now claim that the hole was deliberately made by […]

Melting Greenland threatens to deregulate Asian monsoon

November 27, 2021Mary Adams

If the Asian monsoon were to become deregulated in the decades to come, the origin could well be in the massive release of fresh water in the North Atlantic by the melting of Greenland. Indeed, researchers recently demonstrated how the disturbances initiated in the North Atlantic basin led in the past to a reorganization of […]

  • Theranica, a digital therapeutics company, has conducted a study comparing the effectiveness of Remote Electrical Neuromodulation (REN) to standard-care medications for the acute treatment of chronic migraine. The study concludes that REN, administered by the flagship therapeutic wearable of Theranica, provides an effective non-pharmaceutical alternative to the standard-care abortive medications in individuals affected by chronic migraine. Brian Grosberg, director of the Hartford Healthcare Headache Program, said chronic migraine is a disabling condition, which is diagnosed when a migraine patient experiences at least 12 headache days per month. According to Brian Grosberg, the recent consensus statement of the American Headache Society recommends that, to avoid medication overuse, patients with migraine should be instructed to limit medication use to two headache days per week. Brian Grosberg said that chronic migraine patients often have four, five, or six headache days per week. To treat patients effectively and safely, they should expand the first-line standard-care treatment options beyond the medications. The study also provides a strong comparison of REN to prescribed medications, further reinforcing the conclusion that REN provides a much-needed alternative to acute migraine treatment without compromising the effectiveness of the treatment.
