Press Release

Jackson-based University of Mississippi Medical Center has restored its phone service a week and a half after a ransomware attack crippled the health system’s communications.

UMMC brought its phones back online March 2 and started calling back patients to reschedule appointments that were canceled because of the cyberattack. The organization reopened its outpatient clinics earlier in the day.

UMMC took its IT systems offline Feb. 19 contain the hack, after which a ransomware group demanded money. The health system declined to say whether it negotiated.

“Thank you for your support as we work to recover and provide care for patients at all our locations,” UMMC stated March 2 on social media.
