Drug affordability worries highest since 2018: KFF poll

Press Release

A growing share of Americans worry about affording prescription drugs, with 59% saying they are at least somewhat concerned — the highest level recorded since 2018, according to a March 13 KFF poll.

About 22% of respondents said they are “very worried” about prescription drug costs. Majorities across political parties also said the government should do more to regulate drug prices, with 72% saying there is not as much regulation as there should be and 13% saying there is too much.

The survey was conducted Feb. 24 to March 2, 2026, among 1,343 U.S. adults. Support for increased regulation spans parties, including 77% of Democrats, 72% of independents and 68% of Republicans.

The poll also examined awareness of TrumpRx, a drug discount website launched Feb. 5. Among people who take prescription drugs, 35% said they had heard at least “some” about the site and 7% said they had visited it to compare prices.

Most respondents also said they are skeptical that the administration’s policies will lower drug costs. Fifty-nine percent said it is “not too likely” or “not at all likely” the policies will reduce costs for people like them, compared with 41% who said it is “very” or “somewhat” likely.
