The Trump administration has delayed the launch of TrumpRx.gov, a website designed to connect Americans with discounted prescription drugs sold directly by manufacturers.
The site was expected to go live by the end of January. However, at a Cabinet meeting Jan. 29, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the launch “is going to be happening sometime, probably in the next 10 days,” Politico reported Jan. 30. The administration did not specify a reason for the delay.
The delay comes as federal officials roll out new guidance clarifying how pharmaceutical companies can sell lower-cost prescription drugs directly to patients without violating the anti-kickback statute. The HHS Office of Inspector General issued a bulletin Jan. 27 outlining safeguards that “lower the risk” of such arrangements, while noting the statute remains a criminal law evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
The bulletin was released as the administration prepared for the TrumpRx rollout. As of mid-January, 16 of the 17 largest drugmakers had signed voluntary agreements to offer select medications at discounted rates through the program.
