Sutter Health to analyze 740K patient images with AI

Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health expects several measurable returns from AI in 2026, including the flagging of an additional 17,000 patients with potentially serious conditions.

The 27-hospital system is anticipating the benefits after deploying an enterprise AI operating system from startup Aidoc in 2025.

“We’re leading the way in applying AI to deliver faster, smarter and more precise care,” stated Sutter Chief AI Officer Ashley Beecy, MD, in a Jan. 13 news release. “This approach helps detect serious conditions earlier so patients receive the right treatment at the right time.”

In 2026, Sutter expects the AI operating system to, according to the release:

1. Analyze 740,000 patient images

2. Surface 17,000 cases for potential acute needs

3. Identify up to 50% more patients for follow‑up care

4. Boost awareness of critical findings by as much as 40%

5. Cut radiologist interpretation time by up to 30%
