New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System and Guyana’s Ministry of Health have launched a national quality improvement program focused on advancing patient safety and hospital care through digital, data-driven strategies.
The initiative began with a two-day leadership workshop held March 26-27, during which clinical and administrative teams from six newly constructed regional hospitals worked with Mount Sinai experts on evidence-based approaches to inpatient and emergency care, according to a March 27 news release. The program will initially focus on emergency triage, patient identification and medication safety.
Mount Sinai will support Guyana’s Ministry of Health in implementing scalable systems designed to standardize care and improve outcomes across the hospital network.
The effort is part of a multiyear collaboration among the government of Guyana, Mount Sinai and Hess Corp. to modernize the country’s public health system by 2030. The six hospitals are in Lima Sands, De Kinderen, Diamond, Enmore, Bath Settlement and No. 75 Village.
The initiative emphasizes context-specific innovation, with Mount Sinai experts working alongside frontline teams to develop digital tools and protocols that prioritize safety, reliability and local care needs.
