Indiana hospital implements Meditech Expanse

Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Ind., has gone live with a Meditech Expanse EHR system.

Four things to know:

1. The system replaces a legacy Meditech platform in place since 1998, according to an April 15 Meditech news release. The implementation followed a selection process involving more than 300 stakeholders, including physicians, nurses and administrative staff.

2. A key component of the rollout is access to the Traverse Exchange network, which allows clinicians to view and act on patient data from hospitals using different EHR vendors. It was also selected for its flexibility of its browser-based system, which allows physicians to access the EHR on mobile devices.

3. The implementation included upgrades across acute and ambulatory systems, as well as home health, and added labor and delivery capabilities.

4. The hospital plans to roll out mobile point-of-care solutions for nurses and is exploring the use of nurse handoff tools and advanced AI features.

Schneck Medical Center employs more than 1,000 people across its hospital, cancer center, pediatrics practice and primary and urgent care facilities.
