Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center has renamed its HOPE Tower outpatient facility in honor of philanthropist Mary Ellen Harris and her late husband, Dr. Robert H. Harris, the health system announced.
The Neptune, N.J.-based hospital said in a Feb. 4 news release that the building will now be known as the Dr. Robert H. and Mary Ellen Harris HOPE Tower. The 10-story, $265 million facility opened in 2018 and houses a range of outpatient services, including cancer care, infusion services, imaging, lab work, pediatric subspecialties and mental health care.
The renaming recognizes more than $50 million in contributions from Harris and the Golden Dome Foundation to Hackensack Meridian Health over the past seven years. The health system said Harris’ giving includes more than $30 million to Jersey Shore University Medical Center alone, helping support the purchase of cardio and neuroscience technology.
Hackensack Meridian Health said Harris’ philanthropy has also supported projects across its network, including the Dr. Robert H. and Mary Ellen Harris Heart & Vascular Center at Ocean University Medical Center and the Dr. Robert H. Harris Emergency Care Center at Bayshore Medical Center.
The health system said Dr. Robert H. Harris was a researcher who helped bring Advil to market and developed Vimpat, a drug used to treat epilepsy.
