DEA issues emergency suspension to Tennessee pharmacy

The Drug Enforcement Administration has issued an Immediate Suspension Order to A+ Pharmacy in Chattanooga, Tenn., suspending the retail drugstore’s authority to handle controlled substances.

The action follows a joint investigation with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy that identified violations of the Controlled Substances Act and compliance discrepancies, according to an April 6 news release from the agency.

The DEA issues Immediate Suspension Orders when it determines there is an imminent danger to public health or safety. A+ Pharmacy is prohibited from handling controlled substances while the suspension remains in effect.

DEA registrants have 30 days to request a hearing, though the suspension remains active during administrative proceedings.

The case is being investigated by the DEA’s Knoxville District Office and the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy.
